Spooky Family-Friendly Ghost Tour in New Orleans

While in NOLA we thought it would be fun to do a ghost tour with our kids. The majority of the reviews of this particular tour were 5 star, and all cited Melissa as a wonderful tour guide. So we were a go. Our guide was not Melissa, but Keynin, who started the tour by telling us he had 3 rules, one of which was to lower our expectations of what this tour would be so that we wouldn’t be disappointed. Who does that? Our tour was our family plus another one, with a total of 3 kids who were very intellectually curious. Keynin’s story telling style was a bit disjointed. He would start sentences and then say, “no, I’m not going to tell that story to you all” and then kept the tour moving which left us all feeling as though he was either leaving parts out or couldn’t remember certain aspects of the stories. It was bizarre. The other family commented on the same thing. Half way thru the tour there is an unannounced stop at the oldest bar in the south. And while that would have been fine, if it was an adults only tour, the kids weren’t allowed in the bar and there wasn’t another place for us to go, so we all just waited outside for 10 minutes for Keynin to take his break. This felt quite uncomfortable and unprofessional. As a tour guide, you should really know your audience. At the end of the tour, Keynin tells us that he accepts tips. As I am handing money to my husband, he sees it and stops mid sentence looking at us - again quite uncomfortable. We laughed about this all the way back to our hotel, so I guess there’s that. The stories weren’t scary or interesting, the kids were able to poke holes thru much of them and Keynin want able to answer many of their questions which left them feeling frustrated. I would not recommend this tour, maybe if you get Melissa, but the tour we went on left a lot to be desired.

Melissa was fantastic! She had a lot of knowledge and was great with our kids. It was the perfect amount of time.

Love it ! Great experience for all ages! Very patient with kids and grownups 🤣 this was a good choice for us with little kids and teens. We have a good time!

As a family with 4 younger children this tour was perfect for getting a family friendly little glimpse of the spooky history that New Orleans is known for. My kids were nervous for this at first, but our guide Melissa had them warmed up right away and was very friendly.

Guide never showed up. We had to disappoint our little ones who were very excited about the tour. Maybe next time.

Melissa at Unique NOLA Tours was amazing! She asked me upfront if there any topics I’d prefer not to be discussed in front of my child. It was 2 hours full of fun facts and legends. This company keeps groups small so everyone can enjoy!

We had a fabulous spooky family friendly 2 hour walking tour with our guide Melissa on Mother's Day weekend! The weather was great and we visited some awesome haunted sites including the Andrew Jackson Hotel, the Omni Hotel, Tableau, Muriel's, the LaLaurie Mansion and many more! We have kids aged 9 and 13 and both were interested and engaged and Melissa had really researched all the sites and stories. We made reservations for dinner at Muriel's after our tour and I highly recommend that too, so you can see the table set for the resident ghost that Melissa told us all about! There is even a seance room upstairs! The stories were just spooky enough to peak our interest but not too much to scare our 9 year old. The tour was safe, all wearing masks and wear comfortable shoes. Thanks for a great time!

The story about the girl who died on the roof to impress a love interest and the one about the foreign guy who was murder along with the guard. Every story was amazing and interesting.

Randy was our tour guide and did an amazing job! We had a large party with quite a few kids and he had patience and was very kind and entertaining. He gave us the history and gory details but definitely kept it kid friendly and made us laugh often. He knows his way around, would highly recommend this tour!
