Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Choose a morning or afternoon tour and meet your airboat at the embarkation point in the town of Lafitte, an historic fishing village named for notorious 19th‐century pirate and privateer Jean Lafitte, located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from New Orleans. Prearranged coach pickup is also available from your downtown New Orleans or French Quarter hotel.

Upon arriving at the airboat launch site, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers. Hold on tight as you airboat takes off into the tidewater cypress swamp near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Enjoy close proximity to the water from your seat in the flat‐bottomed airboat. As you zip through the bayou, check out signature cypress trees dripping with moss and massive tupelo‐gum tree rising straight from the water.

Depending on the season, you may spot alligators basking in sun on the shore or lurking in the water. Rest assured that the swamps are teeming with wildlife year‐round. Spot turtles, snakes, raccoons, nutria and many native birds –  you may even spot a bald eagle!

Your airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Before leaving this iconic Cajun town, pop into the local albino alligator exhibit or grab a delectable shrimp Po' boy to go (own expense). Then drive or board your coach back to New Orleans. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick‐up or drop‐off unless hotel pickup and drop‐off is selected at checkout. If you have selected hotel pickup and drop‐off please specify your hotel details at the time of checkout or advise the local operator directly after booking.
Itinerary
Pass By:
Mississippi River
Drive-out along the Mississippi River approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience.
Stop At:
Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees. Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording amazing photo opportunities. Keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators, including an albino alligator. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless option selected at checkout.

Gators Galore

We went on the small airboat tour with transportation. The bus driver picked us up right in front of our hotel and took us to the airboat adventures area. We checked in, the process was very easy. Our airboat driver was Hunter…..if you want to go fast make sure you ride with Hunter. The water was choppy and we were flying, I was system around like a rag doll but it was fun. He took us to some amazing little spots in the bayou and we saw plenty of gators. If you want to see the gators up close he will make sure you get that experience. I even jumped up on my seat at one point when a young gator came aboard. Everyone should definitely tour the swamps when visiting New Orleans.

This was such a fun tour. Our tour guide knew the area very well. We got to see several alligators and feed them. One even came up on the front of the boat. He also knew how to maneuver that boat and gave us quite a fun and fast ride with turns that would splash up a little water.

We were visiting from California and took the 8 person tour. It is well worth the price. We saw numerous gators a friendly raccoon and a bald eagles nest. It was a blast. Our 3 teenagers also enjoyed themselves immensely. Our captain was Hunter. He was knowledgeable and entertaining. This is a must do in New Orleans.

We took the small airboat ride with Tic Tock, who made sure we saw lots of alligators and took us deep into the swamp. It was enjoyable and the scenery very pretty as well.
