Your gladiator lesson takes place at the Gladiator School of Rome, located near the Colosseum on the historic Appian Way. Specializing in the reenactment of ancient Roman life and gladiator fighting, your instructors are members of the Historic Group of Rome and will begin your class by providing you with your costume — a traditional belt, tunic, leather gloves, and a training sword known as a rudis.

Learn the basic skills of gladiator sword fighting before summoning your imagination and channeling your inner ancient Roman as you fight off ferocious lions and battle other sword-wielding gladiators. If you wish, you can participate in an optional gladiator tournament, complete with a prize for the victor. Either way, all participants receive a certificate of accomplishment at the end of your lesson.

Friends and family are allowed to watch your class from the viewing platform. Admission to the Gladiator School of Rome Museum is also included so you can check out gladiator weapons and other artifacts.

We found this to be a very fun activity for our kids. A great way to make history fun for them and a nice break from the seriousness of the monuments, churches and museums. I highly recommend for families travelling in Rome.

It was a superb experience and one of the most memorable part of our trip to Rome. Please note this is not at the colosseum but if you had to chose better the colosseum and this, I would recommend going for this one. They share a bit of history about gladiators give you a short training session, answer question’s patiently, engage the young kids well. A must do if you have kids.

Flama was the best teacher, she taught our kids so much yet made it so much fun and engaging for them. We all had a great time and I think it was the best way to introduce my kids to the history of the gladiators and Roman spectacles. Recommended 100%!!!! My only regret is that we didn’t have the chance to tip her for her kind and excellent service.

This was definitely a must do experience. After a day of sightseeing, the kids loved this more hands on experience. My 8 year old said it was his favorite. The adults had a blast too. I appreciated the mix of history and activity. I recommend bringing bug spray for the afternoon/evening.

Really perfect setup with outdoor training space, gladiator arena, indoor museum and education displays, as well as water/snacks/cafe. Really well done with outfits for both kids and parents if they want to participate as well. The workers are knowledgeable and patient to teach proper hand to hand and sword to sword combat. I highly recommend for any age kid who likes to play outdoors and use their imagination!

Good for kids

Definitely educational. Very hot, no A/C or places to sit when in the museum for an hour before the outdoor activities. Guide was good. Outdoor area we were eaten up by mosquitoes. Bring repellant. Very hot, but kids enjoyed. Also very out of the way. Snack bar includes only potato chips so eat before you arrive. Uber kept cancelling on us... took us another 30min to find a taxi (through Google) to leave.

This was a great experience!! The school is taught by people with a true passion for gladiators and for ancient Roman history. The class starts with a brief history. In our case there were a fair number of younger kids (5-9 years old). The teacher tailored the class to be age-appropriate to the students and still kept the parents laughing. Then we moved out to the training area. After a quick warm up, we all learned the right moves with our swords, then did some sparring practice. After that, she set us up in various combinations to practice our new skills. It was a ton of fun! My husband, my 8 year old son and I all participated. We all loved it and had a great time!

This may be one of the highlights of our 9 year olds’ trip to Italy. The first hour is history about the gladiators and Rome, and the second hour is practice and then combat. The session was fun and definitely a workout. We had a fantastic instructor. Highly recommended! Bring bug spray though!

The information & museum was interesting. The training course was o.k. but could have been more interesting. We all liked the attack & defense training and had fun in the arena. Our leader was fine, but some of the others seemed a little more animated and in character. The location was extremely hard to find for my taxi drivers.

Fantastic experience! It was super interesting throughout. Our lovely instructor Nemisses was great, she kept us all engaged and provided valuable information on the history. She also kindly provided us with mosquito repellent AND booked a taxi for us when our phone died. Thanks a lot Nemisses.
