Stop At:
Old Stone House
Certainly one of the oldest buildings in the entire city, this quaint spot is run by the National Parks Service and has a lovely garden to sit and take a rest in. Built in 1766, it was a car dealership by 1953 when it was taken over for historic preservation. Now it is ours to enjoy and remember a simpler time when tobacco and tall tales traded at the nearby port.

Our tour guide Rebecca was very informative on Georgetown history. She didn't go too fast or too slow, and gave great tidbits of info that we otherwise wouldn't have had walking around on our own. While I enjoyed our time, I do think the tour is overpriced. It just seems like you don't get much for $65 and 1 hr 45 minutes of walking...There's no entry to anything and you stand on sidewalks in front of private homes/businesses. I've paid less for other tours in the city that included transportation to the sites, but not knowing how much of that goes to the guide, we tipped anyway as it's not her fault and we appreciated her knowledge.

History told through architecture
Anne_C
, Apr 2022
Katherine was great describing all about the progressive changes in the architecture while reviewing all the history of Georgetown. It was fun learning about the many characters/ citizens involved, such as JFK, Julia Child, slaves, Underground Railroad & transformers! We even made it up to Georgetown University, Martin’s Tavern & C&O locks. Katherine is a wealth of information & has a flare for sharing it.

Knowledgeable and friendly guide. You might be able to find these places on your own but you won’t understand the background and the history without doing more work than you want to on vacation.
