Meet at the Andrew Jackson statue in the center of Lafayette Square

7:00 PM
Ford's Theatre , 511 10th St NW, Washington, DC 20004, USA

Tour ends outside the Ford's Theatre. We do not go inside Ford's Theatre on the tour.

Your walking tour starts outside St. John's Church in Washington DC, where you'll meet your guide and set off on your tour, learning about Abraham Lincoln's last day in the White House.

Continue to Lafayette Square Park to see Civil War–era homes and buildings, which set the scene for the rest of your exploration. Stop outside the home of Lincoln's theater guests from the night he was assassinated, and walk along Pennsylvania Avenue for a look at other places associated with that night. Your tour ends when you reach Ford's Theatre; go behind the venue to see where John Wilkes Booth made his escape after shooting the president.

During your walk, enjoy photographs and stories from your guide about Washington during the years of the Civil War. Walking distance is roughly 1 mile (1.6 km).

Stop At:
Ford's Theatre
This is the historic theater where John Wilkes Booth snuck up behind the President like a coward and fired that fateful shot. Today it is a working theater and it has been restored to his Civil War era grandeur. Millions of Americans visit this location every year to remember Lincoln and his legacy.

Stop At:
Petersen Boarding House
This small and simple historic row house was a boarding house at the time of the Civil War. After Lincoln was shot, he was taken to a room on the first floor of this house while the doctors attended to his health. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton interviewed witnesses here that night. Robert Todd Lincoln arrived from the White House and stayed by his father's side all night. It was a sad procession early the next morning when they finally brought the President's lifeless body down the steps for his carriage journey back to the White House.

Great story and piece of history!

Katherine did a great job of explaining all of the ins & outs of the Lincoln assassination. We got to see some of the sights where it all went down and she told the story very well, even through the madness of a protest going on. That took away from the experience a little bit but it didn't last very long and we got away from it as we continued on our tour. Overall great experience and super interesting!

Lincolns final days.

Kevin was very knowledgeable about Lincoln and the events surrounding the assassination. He has a very engaging personality and is easy to listen to and ask questions of. I wouldn't book this tour if I was a student of Lincolns life as you might find it repetitive.

Kevin was awesome. We enjoyed the storytelling at dusk as we visited the real sites where events took place. It made the history come to life. We were intrigued by the details of history that is not told in history books. My 13 year old son and I enjoyed the tour very much.

We walked 4 blocks in the rain to get no where. Didn't here one thing about Lincoln. Kept hearing other stories that. had nothing to do with Lincoln. All while being in the rain. Didnt see Fords theater ir where they took Lincolns body. Left tour early. Bored, wer and tired. Too much walking for useless information.

Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts. We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t feel the tour was worth it and have refunded your tickets. We are surprised to hear that none of the stories were about Lincoln, can you contact us to know what your guide talked about? That was a fully booked tour and no other guests made this comment but this tour does cover other events that night that were part of Booths plan as well as other people who present with Lincoln that night so there are stops that aren’t only about President Lincoln himself to give a full picture of the events that led up to and happened that night. The tour ends at Fords Theatre and the guide mentioned you left half way through the tour so there were a number of stops missed, including Fords Theatre and Peterson’s House.
