George Washington Tribute Well-Deserved

Loved the movie at end how we almost lost the Revolutionary War. I was here about 15yrs ago, Mt Vernon has really stepped up their game with the ‘new’ museum etc.

Robert was great! Very low key. Have a bunch of information. Plenty of time to see Mt Vernon. Quick driving tour of Alexandria, but still fun to see.

No air conditioning in the tour bus. It would be nice if we have a tour guide walk along with the group and explain the the history such as the other tour group.

Wonderful tour guide on a smaller comfortable bus. Mount vernon, the Washington's, plus all the local stories of old Alexandria. 11am to 4pm. We could see what we wanted at Mount Vernon, tour guide suggested talking to Mrs Washington's reinactor and can eat at the full restaurant or food court.. lots to see.. we loved it all.. lots of walking too.. great full restaurant! And great gift shops too! Recommend highly.

Easy and fascinating!

Other reviews said this was a glorified taxi, but I disagree! Robert’s commentary and fun historical facts on the drive(s) enriched our understanding of the times and the people of early America! The mansion and grounds are of course fascinating, and the bonus of going with a tour is that you don’t have to arrange transportation in addition to purchasing tickets, timing everything, etc. The one thing I would change would be to have the tour start an hour earlier as the grounds close at 5, so we didn’t make it to every exhibit. The museum and gift shops stay open until 6, though, which was our departure time. I definitely recommend this tour!!

George Washington’s Mt vernon home

The beauty of the dock area as well as the view from the back of the house. The house tour was very informative. Some rooms were a surprise. Some were what I would have expected. I can understand why some people would have coincidentally been in the area at a time they needed a place to stay. Some of the bedrooms were beautiful.

The grounds and view of the mansion was great! The house tour very disappointing - un organized- as the line of tourists keeps passing through and you may or may not hear what they say about each room. Also there wasn’t much to say about a trim the docents if you can call them that didn’t seem to know very much. Best to spend most of your time in the museum which looks amazing and we didn’t know about the museum till the very end it was too late to spend much time there. We will come back just for the museum!

Nice but could do on my own

I enjoyed the visit to mount vernon but didn’t know the grounds closed at 5 and our tour pick up was 6. Would have done things in a different order and ended with the museum. I thought there would be at least a few very brief picture stops in Alexandria. Given this was really just transportation to and from mount vernon could have just used an Uber or Lyft to get there- would have missed a little commentary on the way to and from but would have been at my own pace.

Mt. Vernon-Loved it

, Jun 2022
Unlike our Big Bus Hop-On Hop-Off tour, our Mt. Vernon tour was a delight. Brought to life by Robert, our driver and historian, he gave us a very detailed view of the history of not only Washington’s home, but of the entire area. He was delightful, and the mansion and estate itself was fantastic.

Trip up and back was so bumpy as bus needs new shocks. My friends were getting car sick and it was hard to hear the driver
